Parent Education & Family Literacy
Parent and caregiver education programs have been shown to have strong, positive influences on child growth and school readiness. Family literacy encourages literacy and promotes en¬hanced oral language skills, including improved communication skills and vocabulary. First 5 Riverside funds the following agencies to help support these goals:

Preschool Spaces
Children who attend pre¬school are also better behaved in classroom settings and demonstrate more developed emotional and social skills. First 5 Riverside aims to increase the availability of affordable preschool that meets state standards and funds the following to meet that goal:

Early Education Opportunities
The focus of this initiative is to fund evidence-based programs for early education services.
Bermuda Dunes Learning Center provides center-based services to infants, toddlers and two-year-olds following PITC guidelines and using the Creative Curriculum and Active Learning Series protocols.
Preschool For All Initiative
Support for universally accessible preschool in Riverside County. Efforts include sustaining and enhancing the only existing program in the County in
Nuview Union School District,; using it as a flagship program; and creating additional flagship classrooms in the
Temecula Valley and
Murrieta Valley unified school districts.
School Readiness
Funding for programs that help young children enter school physically, and emotionally healthy and ready to succeed through quality early childhood education and care; health and social services; parental education/involvement and support; and family-friendly environments in school-based or school-linked settings. Funded agencies include the
Coachella Valley,
Hemet,
Lake Elsinore,
Jurupa, Palm Springs unified school districts
Perris Elementary and
Nuview Union School District.
